Infographics have been the hot not so new thing in content for the past few years. These are a very effective way to convey complex information in a compelling and interesting way. We like to scan not read and we love pictures and graphics. Infographics offers the best of both. However, they are not the best when it comes to SEO because they are after all graphics and Google doesn’t read graphics. But there are some things you can do to help Google see your infographic.
The secret power of infographics is that they are highly sharable and often are. Hotspot, reports that 40% of people respond better to visual information vs. text and photos or images on Facebook get shared five times more than text.
Infographics can also help your link building strategy. Well regarded content is often shared and this drives inbound links, which helps build your reputation and relevance in Google’s eyes.
Anything worth doing is worth doing well. This is especially true with infographics. Do the research, find the right graphic artist and make sure you are telling a compelling story. A bad infographic is only a waste of money and time. Do them well or don’t do them at all.
Be sure to work with your SEO expert from the beginning so you can optimize your infographic to the greatest extent possible. The same fundamental SEO rules that apply to video and audio recordings also apply to infographics. Always use text to describe and/or transcribe the object.
